Here’s Why More People Are Choosing Endodontic Treatment

February 3, 2025

Did you know that an estimated 15 million root canal procedures are performed each year in the United States? That’s an estimated 41,000 root canals a day! Our endodontist at Concho Valley Endodontics, who has undergone extensive training beyond general dentistry to master this tooth-saving treatment, knows why our specialty has grown so impressively.

Here are just a few of the reasons:

  • Long-lasting results: A successful root canal-treated tooth can last for many years, even decades. Long-term success is influenced by maintaining proper oral hygiene, having regular dental checkups, and the overall health of the tooth and surrounding bone
  • Satisfied patients: The American Association of Endodontists has found that 89 percent of patients are satisfied after root canal treatment performed by an endodontist.
  • Patient comfort: Advancements in our specialty and in anesthesia has made having a root canal often shorter in duration and no more uncomfortable than having a filling put in by a dentist.

Here are a few more interesting facts related to endodontic treatment:

  • Although all teeth can potentially require root canal treatment in certain situations, molars are the most likely to require this procedure, which focuses specifically on the treatment of the tooth's pulp and surrounding tissues. Why molars? They’re the largest teeth in back of the mouth and that bear most of the burden when we chew our food. This makes them more vulnerable to sustaining cracks and fractures that can expose the inner pulp to bacteria. They also have multiple roots and canals.
  • On the flip side, incisors are generally the teeth least prone to needing root canal treatment. These teeth in front of the mouth exert much less chewing force than our molars, which reduces the risk of cracks and fractures.

If you’re experiencing pain or sensitivity in one or more teeth, our endodontist at Concho Valley Endodontics can provide relief while saving that precious, irreplaceable natural tooth. Please contact us today to schedule an appointment.
